Cautionary Tales For The Jewish Single

When a Jewish single person is trying to meet new people and find a potential romantic partner or future spouse, they may decide to take advantage of Jewish dating internet sites to get a little help. Many of these services cater particularly to Jewish young people, allowing them to build personal profiles and find possible matches with people who share their cultural values.

At the same time, Jewish singles need to be careful about jumping too quickly into the online dating game. They may not be ready for the wide range of preferences that are catered to by a lot of these sites. For example, if they are very religious, then they may be shocked at the websites that advertise sex, as well as dates. They may want to investigate sites that cater specially to Orthodox Jewish singles, like www.dosidate.com or www.orthodate.com. They'll need to do a web search on the reputation of any particular website, to see what other people say about it, or else contact those who are already members.

Someone who might be less shocked, but more vulnerable, could be a Jewish single who is either a recent immigrant to the United States or who is looking to find a life partner and move here. Dating sites aimed at them might mask what could essentially be bride-buying schemes. If a newcomer isn't aware of their rights, they could easily be taken advantage of. There are some signs to watch for, however. If for example someone visited a Russian Jewish dating site and realized that none of the men's photographs were displayed but all of the women's photos were, then it might be good to ask a few questions.

It's wise to safeguard against Jewish dating sites that might not be entirely legitimate. Doing a search on the general reputation of the site and its owners would be a good start. One positive sign would be if the website was either recommended by or associated with a reputable institution, like a synagogue or the government. One thing a person should remember is never to reveal personal financial information to any people they are matched with. And they should have their first few meetings in a public place. Dating sites can be a help for the Jewish single trying to meet new people, but the person should always exercise caution until they are confident in both the site and the caliber of the people they are meeting.
