Sex Lies and Online Dating
She explained THE TROUBLE WITH VALENTINE'S DAY (as if you didn't know!) Now Rachel Gibson tells all about . . .
SEX . . .
What is it about men anyway? Bad cars, bad jobs, even bad teeth -- nothing convinces them that they can't snare a Size Two Babe with a D-cup chest. And after way too many internet dates with men named "luvstick" and "bigdaddy182," Lucy Rothschild should know.
LIES . . .
But sitting across from her now is "hardluvnman," and he seems different -- sensitive, honest, and hot! He says he's a plumber, while Lucy claims she's a nurse! She's really a mystery writer, dating online while researching her next book. Hey, everyone lies a little, don't they?
AND ONLINE DATING . . .
But Quinn's really an undercover cop hunting down a serial killer, and he sees Lucy as his top suspect. And while he could really go for this smart, sexy woman with the killer bod -- if that's the only thing "killer" about her -- he knows he needs to wine and dine her and discover the truth. Hey, he realizes the dating scene can be deadly -- but this is ridiculous!

5 Stars Great Book This was my first Rachel Gibson book I ever read. I got it as a present for my birthday and first I was not very eager to read it. But after a while it kind of fall into my hands again and I started the book. And from that second I was under the spell of Rachel Gibson and her romance novels. I have to admit that I am a very romantic person and romantic poems or books get me very easily. But with the stories of Rachel Gibson there is more to it, than just that.
The way she writes, the way she depicts the characters and the story is in my opinion unique in comparrison to other authors. I have read all her books by now (in the moment reading the newest one) and even though I have to admit that the story and the way of the characters is unsually very similar in each book, she succeds in enthuse the reader simply with her writing talent. Her funny, interesting way of writing makes her books a joy to read and in my case it makes me ignore that many of her books do not vary very much in concern of the stories and the outcome in the end.
Concerning Sex Lies and Online Dating I can say, that this is the first of so far four books. It covers the story of one of four women authors struggeling to find the right man in there lifes. While Lucy is writing one of her new mystery novels she digs into the life of online dating and accidently starts to fall for a man named Quinn who in true life is an undercover cop suspecting her to be a serial killer. While going on dating both very soon find it hard, to forget about the other and the already twisted and turned story adds another twist as Quinn starts to have problems parting his personal feelings from his work.
In my opinion Rachel Gibson is a very good author writing funny, interesting, romance novels. And even though some my not want to read more that one book by her, because they may find it boring, I suggest, that at least one book should be read and for this I suggest the one, which was also my very first: Sex, Lies and online Dating.
5 Stars Dating's a Danger! Gibson has found a fun way to keep the dating scene funny and interesting with "Sex, Lies, and Online Dating." Enter Lucy Rothschild, a murder mystery writer, who meets men online to do research for her latest book. (She tells her dates that she is a nurse.) Enter Quinn, an undercover cop, who meets women online in the hopes of catching the serial killer who has been meeting men online and murdering them. (He tells his dates that he is a plumber.)
Quinn is convinced Lucy is the killer, based on
1. He knows she has told a few fibs in her cover story.
2. For a nurse, she is very well versed in police procedures.
3. When he finds out she is a writer, he runs across one of her manuscripts where she talks about killing a victim in such detail to match the most recent victim's death.
When a sting is set up to bring out Lucy's killer instincts, the actual serial killer strikes again. Quinn then lays his cards on the table, admitting to his profession and his beliefs that Lucy was the killer. Although Lucy had started to fall hard for Quinn, she is stunned and hurt to think he would really think her a killer.
Thinking she was just a "job" to him, she refuses to see him again. Until, of course, the killer contacts Lucy via fan mail. She has no choice but to get in touch with the police to turn over the evidence. Quinn, missing her and wanting to protect her, swoops in to help Lucy when she is at her worst.
Their flirtations are fun and the spark that grows between them is only impeded by the secrets that each of them is keeping...oh, and the serial killer that's on the loose.
Gibson's fun and clever plot, as well as her real-life characters, will make readers glad they picked this up.
2 Stars TSTL I've liked most of what I've read of Rachel Gibson, and this has a fun and interesting premise. Unfortunately, it takes some give-me-a-break plotting to make it work. When you discover the man is an undercover cop who has been dating you because you're a prime suspect, if you're a reasonable person, you understand that the lies he told were in the line of duty and that, in his shoes, you'd make the same choices. And I expect my heroines to react like reasonable people. Yes, that sometimes makes plotting more challenging, but that's life.
I could almost overlook that flaw. What I can't overlook was when the heroine has an extreme attack of stupid and goes alone to meet a woman she only knows in passing when there's a female serial killer who has threatened to make her the next victim. This genre isn't overly critical or overly demanding, but I still expect better sense from the heroine and better plotting from an author.
4 Stars Everything you want in a romance novel I really enjoyed this book. It was funny, the main characters well developed, the love scenes steamy. A truly enjoyable read. Ms. Gibson has a wonderful talent for writing, her wacky sense of humor is fun and who hasn't had at least one date from Hell!
4 Stars Great read This book was fabulous and very well done. Gibson managed to keep the tone light and airy through parts of it, even though the plotline revolves around a serial killer imitating a murder-mystery writer's latest story. I am definitely going to read more from her.
